It's The End Of The World As We Know It! And I Feel Fine

How are you going to spend your last...... lets say 4 and a half days?  For those of you that haven't heard, once again, we have an individual by the name of Harold Camping that has predicted the end of the world. More precisely the second coming of Christ.  Harold and his followers have predicted this to occur on Saturday May 21 2011 at 6 p.m.

While there are a lot of people out there that are mocking him and the fact that many of his group have sold everything, spent life savings, and invested in tracts, and bill boards to proclaim these perdictions.  I am not here to mock him.  I am completely aware of what the Bible says.

1 Thessalonians 5:1-11 (ESV)
1 Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need to have anything written to you.
2 For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night.
3 While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.
4 But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief.
5 For you are all children of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness.
6 So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober.
7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night.
8 But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation.
9 For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him.
11 Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.
Matthew 24:36-44 (ESV) 36 “But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.
37 For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark,
39 and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
40 Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left.
41 Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left.
42 Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.
43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into.
44 Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect
.

While it is clear that no man will know, it is arrogant to think that because someone makes a prediction that it means there is no way that it will happen at that time or moment.  God moves in spite of what man may think or predict.  If May 21st at 6 p.m. suites God, I can assure you that he will not stop his plans, because someone got lucky and predicted a date.  Let me say this another way..... Just because someone has predicted a date and time, made a big deal out of it spent a lot of money etc, does not make God say..... well I can't do it that day because someone predicted it.  Hear me on this......It would be nothing more than a lucky guess on the part of Harold Camping.  It is presumptuous to state that there is no way it could be the end of the world.  There are people saying that on the 22nd they will call Harold Camping and ask for an explanation much of this from other Christians.  I would say this, your arrogance will not settle well with God.  It could very well be YOUR last night and while it may not be the end of the world or the second coming of Christ at that time.  Who are you to say that God will give you one more day, you may not be here to call Harold even though Harold is available to take phone calls.

What should we as Christians take from this?  We are to be ready at all times.  If Saturday is the end of the world as we know it... then I feel fine, I am ready, I have accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior and I have faith in His Word.  We also should take this as a reminder that we need to be about our fathers business with urgency and sharing the Gospel daily.  We could all do a better job of that.

2 Timothy 4:1-5 (ESV)
1 I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom:
2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.
3 For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions,
4 and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.
5 As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

If you did know how many days you had left what would you do?
