Music Monday 11/22/10
Hey! and good morning to all. In case you don't know by now I love music. It started way back when I was a little kid. I truly believe that music is a gift and revelation from God. While man, in our sinful ways, have distorted it and used it for every type of depravity you can imagine it still doesn't change the origin or purpose of music. It is the universal language. I am speaking of the music aspect of music..... not the lyrical aspect of music, as that in and of itself, is what man has used to distort it. My musical tastes have been shaped by many different types of music. I would imagine that there are several of you, if not many, that have had exposure to many types of music as well. Music Monday is an attempt to delve into some of the music that has shaped my listening ear, and to explore some music that is different and unique, or that you and I may have never heard before. This installment is going to have a bit of a different influence, that is not out there by todays standards of music, but was a bit off the beaten path back in the very early eighties when I first started listening to this group.

Saturdays are for Stories: Thanksgiving
As long as I can remember Thanksgivings were spent mostly with my Grandpa and Grandma Church. It seemed as though for a majority of my years we always lived in an area that was relatively close to them. Thanksgivings were always with them and my dad's family. There were a few years that we were at my mom's side of the family but they lived much further away and it wasn't a common occurrence.
Thanksgivings were always big, many people, and lots and lots of food. My dad's side of the family were very well versed on the culinary things in life and always took the time to make wonderful and unique dishes each year. We had our traditional dishes that were always there but there was always a little different stuff from different sources to go along with those things.

A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words
New feature from time to time I am going to post just a picture. I may include a caption with the picture but what ever I do will be minimal. The point is that every picture contains a thousand words, of description, of story, of events. You name it. When I post a Picture Worth a Thousand Words or a P.W.A.T.W. feel free to comment on it. Add some of those words to the comments, or tell a story, your own story about the picture you are seeing. It could be a creative story or a true story about your life, or completely fictional and made up there is no right story here. Everyone gets to add to the dialog and contribute in this creative process. I am going to try and post mostly pictures I have taken, however from time to time I may be posting pictures that are taken by someone else. I will give credit where credit is due. So for the first ever PWATW here on Couldu Shouldu Wouldu, here ya go.
What do you think? Any thoughts, memories. Maybe a short story about what comes to your mind about what is happening here.

Did You Go After THAT Sheep?
What sheep? Ummmm the one that left..... the one that isn't here anymore, THAT sheep! Oh that sheep..... nope I didn't go after it. I figured I would just let it go on its own, you know it really is tireing trying to keep up with all the sheep and I figure the one that wonders off is just going to do it again.... so I will save myself some time and just hang with the sheep that stay here.
When I ended my last post I was just about to start telling you about what I learned in my study of Matthew 18: 10-14. I now have a bit of time to share all of the really great insights I gained by studying this passage. So if you are one of the two inquiring minds that want to know than lets unpack this baby..........

I Have a Problem With The Bible
I Have a Problem With The Bible. I have read the entire thing..... I have listened to the entire Bible on multiple occasions. I have done complete verse studies and reviewed commentary from multiple sources. I have read parts of it in approx 20 different translations. I have it in Greek and in Hebrew. I read the Bible first before I consult any commentary or other sources to attempt to get out of the text what is intended on my own first, prior to looking at any other resources. My problem with the Bible is that after I read it, re-read it, and read it again........... listen to it, re-listen to it, and listen to it again

Music Monday Jazz
I really like Jazz! All types of Jazz! I realize that there are many different sub-genres of Jazz and I am not going to get in to all of that, cause it will mostly confuse everyone. I like the old jazz with the greats and the new stuff and everything in between. If I was stuck on a deserted island and I could only have one type of music, I would pick jazz. I honestly feel that each time I listen to a jazz piece I hear something different. There are so many nuances that just come out over time. Subtle chord alterations, modes and changes that occur. The way the tones clash at times and the harmonics that resonate. It is nearly a new experience with each listen. Today I am going to pass on for your enjoyment a couple of Jazz songs from a few of my favorite musicians. I wish that I could express in words all the emotion that one Jazz song can convey. Take a little of your time...... slow down and listen to the following songs. Maybe....... just maybe you will feel a little of what I am talking about.
